It's Christmas but it doesn't feel like Christmas

Its amazing when you have children that you can't help but feel the excitement of Christmas. But, when they've grown and moved on its a whole different story. As the Missus and I were sharing our morning coffee - (no, we didn't use the same cup), she said to me that it didn't feel like Christmas and I had to agree.

By this time our home is usually festooned with every imaginable decoration she can pull out of storage and there's baking hidden away from my sweet tooth. (I know its in the deep freeze somewhere). There are usually plans in place for at least one grandchild and their parents to arrive and we've laid in or is it layed in, some tasty snacks and refreshing beverages. But none of that is going to happen this year. At least not on Christmas day. We did have an earlier get together two weeks ago with my two daughters and their husbands in Edmonton and we got to play with our three grandsons so it's not like we didn't have anybody around but its just not the same as the hustle and bustle of Christmas day.

In any case we will have Christmas dinner with my Mom and one of my brothers and a couple of sisters and a niece that is bringing her three kiddies so it will still hustle and bustle on the day.

As I'm writing this it occurred to me that this article will seem like I'm feeling bad for myself and that's not why I was writing it. I'm not writing it to depress anyone either I'm writing it to share how life changes and how we miss opportunities to gather with family. If you've missed those opportunities in the past then you should do your utmost to rectify the situation and make plans to get together with people you have been missing.  If you don't have anyone close perhaps helping others to enjoy the season by volunteering to serve dinner with some organization that is putting one on in your community will satisfy. And, if there isn't one, start one of your own. I know the community will support you.  Your efforts will be richly rewarded through new friendships and the feeling that you've helped others to enjoy.
Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

Our Firefighters are Amazing

Firemen continue to pour water on the building at 10 p.m.
The Bonnyville Hotel fire brought out the best in our firefighters from the region and I want to say thanks for keeping this one under control. These volunteers came from Ardmore, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, LaCorey and Iron River to help contain the blaze that would have severely changed the face of main street Bonnyville. As it is, there will be a change as the cost to repair would be more than the hotel could generate. It is hoped that the owner had insurance and that he will stay to rebuild something on the site.

I also feel badly for those who have lost their shelter and individuals who have lost their business due to the blaze. Joy and Lynn will have to relocate and replace equipment, Derek will have to find another place to operate his Tailgate Lounge and those residents will have to find somewhere else to live.

It is also rumored that one tenant may have succumbed to the smoke but at this time there is no confirmation. Officials have not been able to perform a search because of dangerous conditions. It's hoped that this person was just away at the time of the fire. Cause of the blaze is as yet undetermined but is said to have started in a room on the third floor.

In the meantime, citizens of Bonnyville are asked to conserve water and use it sparingly in light of the amount of water that has been poured on the fire and two coincidental water main breaks that took place.

Snow is interesting stuff

The first major snowfall of the season is always an interesting time and it doesn't matter where you are. It changes a lot of dynamics in the lives of those who are affected and makes you wonder if many of these folks even turned their brain on when they got up in the morning.

We were in Edmonton for a little family get together and they have a lot more snow there than we did when we left Bonnyville. Their side streets were covered with about four inches of the white stuff and it was piled high on lawns where it had been shovelled from drives and walks. The main streets weren't much better with the usual ridges between the wheel tracks making lane changing a challenge and intersections were polished to a glassy sheen. Speaking of a sheen, I wonder why people seem to think that the faster they accelerate from the stop light the quicker they'll get off the ice. Can't they figure out they are only making more ice for those that follow. I think its just a macho thing with some of them. They think they are showing us just how much power they have under the hood. Geez smart guy try it on dry pavement out at the drag strip. Just Dumb. Anyway, to continue it wasn't long before the radio stations were loaded with accident reports - mostly at intersections where someone had slid through the light or tried to turn across traffic while spinning their tires (see previous sentences). Or, there are those drivers who believe they are bullet proof and because the speed limit is posted at 60 KPH that they can safely maintain that speed inspite of the slippery, snowy conditions. Just Dumb. As we were leaving the city to return home on Sunday we saw the aftermath of a dandy crunch with pieces of plastic blown all over the road, one car's front end totally destroyed and the other vehicle was up on a hedge and pile of decorative rocks on the right side of the road. It too was smashed up so they both must have been really clipping. The local TV network had a camera man out there shooting coverage for the 6 p.m. news and sure enough it was on there..Time for us to get the heck out of Dodge. (City that is) and head back to Bonnyville. Hmm more snow falling than when we left and we came home to a winter wonderland. Can't hardly wait for the intersections to get polished up here.

I'm going to put a poll up here because I'm curious about the state of politics in the area. The results of course will be unofficial but I'm curious and want to know. I also want to know how many of you read this blog and if there's any value to it or if there are things you'd like to hear about. You can post your comments at the bottom. The poll will be located on the side bar. Oh, and if you have a community event or some good news, pass it along. I'm trying to keep this blog as light and fun as can be although I might get a little rant on once in a while but I'll try and keep it fun.
****
Don't forget, The Fort Kent Seniors will be holding their breakfast on Sunday, December 19th at the Senior's Centre. It's a great deal and It's a great way to catch up on what everybody is up to.  Doors open about 9 a.m. I believe so we'll see you there.

Duane Steele
Also, country music artist, Juno and CCMA award winner, prolific writer of great songs, Duane Steele is going to be performing at the Players Lounge on the west end of town on Saturday the 18th. Get your tickets from Sarah and tell'em I sent you.

I know one thing you folks like and that's the jokes cause you've told me in our conversations. So here's this weeks funny.
A man returns home a day early from a business trip. It's after midnight . En route home he asks the cabby if he would be a witness.  The man suspects his wife is having an affair and he wants to catch her in the act. For $100 bucks, the cabby agrees.
Quietly arriving home, the husband and cabby tip toe into the bedroom. The husband switches on the light and yanks back the blankets. Sure enough there's his wife in the arms of another man!
The husband puts a gun to the naked man's head and the wife shouts. "Don't do it! I lied when I said I inherited money.
He paid for the Corvette I gave you.
He paid for our new cabin cruiser.
He paid for your Oiler season tickets
He paid for our house at the lake
He paid for our membership at the country club
He even pays the monthly dues."

Shaking his head from side to side the husband lowers his gun. He looks over at the cabby and says, "What would you do?"

The cabby replies, "I'd cover up his butt with that blanket before he catches a cold!"

Have a great week. Dave

the Spirit of Christmas is in the air

The Festival of Trees has taken over the hub of the Centennial Centre and will run through until December 5th. The trees are all donated by local businesses and then decorated by Doreen Kushnir and her crew. They will be sold off later on and the proceeds is going towards Haying in the 30s a local support society for people with cancer. There's even one special tree that is decorated with a multitude of wines that have been donated by locally owned beverage stores. Thanks to all who contributed. Its a great way to get the Spirit of Christmas running through your mind. Take the kids, take Grandma and Grandpa, take yourself.
****
How about the Oilers. They blanked the Toronto Maple Leafs in their own barn. A nice three game sweep in the east on the road. Meanwhile in Calgary folks are jumping off the Flame wagon faster than grasshoppers from a burning hayfield. My how times change.
****
I see that the town crews were out the other day hanging the lamp post decorations. Their seems to be a few new items there that are more banners than decorations. They don't have any lights on them but they are colorful. The only trouble is they say, Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays but I haven't seen one that says Merry Christmas. Are we being too politically correct? Can you imagine singing this song. "We wish you a Seasons Greetings, we wish you a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year." I think there's supposed to be a Merry Christmas in there somewhere.
****
Its also nice to see a number of stores who have painted their windows in celebration of the season.
****
If you missed the Society Singers last night at the C2, there's still a chance to catch a the night of Music at the United Church in Bonnyville. Sunday, December 5th is the day. There will even be a lunch afterward.
****
The Santa Claus at the shopping mall was very surprised when Emily, ayoung lady aged about 20 years old walked up and sat on his lap.  Now, we all know that Santa doesn't usually take requests from adults, but she smiled very nicely at him, so he asked her, 'What do you want for Christmas?'
'Something for my mother, please,' replied Emily sweetly.
'Something for your mother? Well, that's very loving and thoughtful of you,' smiled Santa. 'What do would you like me to bring her?'
Without turning a hair Emily answered quickly, 'A son-in-law.'

Have a great day. Dave

Now where did this come from?

Nice. I woke up yesterday with a scratchy, itchy throat and the feeling that I wasn't going to enjoy my morning. I was right. After pawing through the medicine cabinet and using up a couple of cough drops I found in a coat pocket I was getting desperate to find something that would ease that itchy, scratchy, yucky feeling. I didn't want to go out so I got on the internet to see if there were some alternate ideas about using home remedies to at least make me feel half human.

Here's one article I found that has some pretty good ideas that I'm going to try right away. We'll talk again soon. Enjoy.
Dave.

Natural cold remedies vary since there are over 200 known strains of the common cold virus. As with many ailments, the best treatment for the common cold is good prevention. Once you have developed a cold, you generally have to let it run its course. In the meantime, your goal should be treating the symptoms to stop them as much as possible.
Congestion and Mucus Treatment
Steam inhalation with natural oils is a great natural cold remedy, especially when battling mucus and congestion symptoms. Use a humidifier and add a few drops of peppermint to loosen thick sticky mucus. Also, adding a few drops of tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil is great for fighting congestion. If you don't have a humidifier handy, take a warm shower to help your congestion. Also, taking a warm bath with about 5 to 10 drops of lavender and about 5 drops of cinnamon oil not only helps with congestion but is good if there are chills.
Diet
One of the best natural cold remedies is to eat the right foods when you feel a cold coming on. Foods high in the necessary vitamins and minerals can sometimes stop the infection all together if taken in the earliest stages of some colds. Eat lots of other fresh fruits and vegetables which are high in Vitamin A, B and C such as bananas, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, strawberries and other natural energy boosters. Also, herbal teas and warm fruit juices will encourage the body to fight colds more effectively. Avoid mucus producing foods especially milk and other dairy products. Also, pastries, cakes and other refined carbohydrates can cause more harm than good during this time. And most importantly, as always stay hydrated with plenty of natural juices such as grapefruit and or orange juice. And don't forget to drink plenty of water.

Super foods
A regular intake of garlic is especially useful in increasing resistance to respiratory infections and colds. Garlic is most useful when eaten raw. To avoid the smell and taste of raw garlic, you can also take the capsules, even though they may not be as powerful as the natural raw product. Cayenne, which has been used for centuries by Native Americans, is another powerful weapon in the battle against colds. Take a quarter teaspoon with a cup of juice to stimulate your blood circulation and build your immune system. To really give your immune system a boost, boil some ginger and add some cinnamon for taste. Drink as a warm tea to fight your cold and symptoms.

You don't always have to go out to buy medicine and drugs to treat cold and flu symptoms. Natural cold remedies can in some cases be just as good. Also, you are boosting your immune system to prevent and fight colds and infection in the future. As always, if your cold becomes worse, it's always best to seek the advice of a physician. But as a first remedy, give these tips a try.

My name is Bruce Chu, I am an avid fan of natural remedies for conditions, ailments and illnesses. If you are searching for natural treatments for ailments such as sciatic nerve pain relief and other problems, stop by my website and give my techniques a try.

Two and OH

Condolences to all of the Saskatchewan Roughrider fans who have to head home this morning without a Grey cup for the second time. there will be sadness and moaning in the coffee shops but time will heal the wounds and they'll likely be back again because that is the resilience of Saskatchewan fans. Until next time folks in the meantime thanks for the entertainment.
****
Speaking of entertainment, don't forget the Society Singers concert on Dec 2nd in the Centennial Centre field house. Start time is 7 p.m. and they'll take a silver collection in support of the Knights of Columbus Christmas hamper program.
****
Still in an entertainment vein, if you are around for New Year's Eve you can head up to Sandy Rapids Hall and spend it with Tiffany Dowhan and the folks from that area. Tickets are just $30 each and include dinner and dancing plus plenty of good times. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 and the dance starts at 9 p.m. For tickets or more information, contact Lenore at 780-826-5407 or Patti at 780-826-7443.
****
You might also want to call Lenore if you support those folks in their objection to the RII North America project to recover oil using an underground combustion process. Apparently they only have until December 2 to submit a letter of objection. Call her for more details on how you can help or just for more intormation. The test area is located above and between two of the most important aquifers in this whole region and their concern is for the potential, accidental contamination of this important water source.
****
Spent time with some great company on Saturday night over in Mallaig with the Haying in the 30s volunteers for our annual Christmas Potluck supper. It is amazing how that meal comes together without anybody making lists or deciding who brings what. Long time board member Don Katerenych from St. Paul stepped down so he could devote more time to his farming operation in Saskatchewan so there is an opening if anyone would like to step up to the plate just contact Norm Theroux in St. Paul or Edgar Corbierre in Mallaig. You'll be most welcomed and will meet some of the most dedicated people I've every come across.
****
Speaking of Edgar Corbierre, he has penned a short book about his life history including his ancestors trek here from Quebec and the trials and tribulations they faced coming to settle a new land. He made it primarily for his family members but its a pretty interesting read about how they managed with very little to tame this harsh land.

A rescue party reached a downed airplane in the remote wilderness and pried the door of the plane open to find the lone survivor dining on a human bone. In fact he was surrounded by a pile of human bones. "My God man, what have you done?" said the leader of the rescue party.  "Hey, don't judge me" the survivor said. "I had to survive!" "Yes," the leader said "but the plane just crashed yesterday!" Have a great week. Dave

Health Care problem the ME problem

Stop the crap already. I'm sick and tired of everyone pointing fingers in this health care situation in Alberta. We've got the Medical profession lining up on one side of the fence pointing fingers at the government and an upstart political group #wap using all of this posturing to draw attention to them and their instant- ill-thought solutions. We've also got a public that sometimes abuses the system by tying up critical services with minor ailments instead of using clinics that should be designed to handle those cases. Then you've got health board members quitting because they feel they've been pressured into making a decision that frankly was warranted. Yes, ME, ME, ME.  Everyone wants what's good for me without ever thinking about the silent majority that just wants to earn a living, enjoy leisure with their families and friends, have access to quality health care and education and a clean environment in which to live.

This morning's news literally shouted that the Doc's are lining up to point fingers at Premier Stelmach and former Health Minister Liepert. They wanted them to fix the problem in the ERs. Wait a minute, this is not a new problem. It goes back further than 2 or 3 years ago. My family, and I'm sure that other families, can bring forth stories of delays and long waits for care in our medical facilities. So why all of a sudden is there a big panic and why aren't the Doc's and their support staff accepting some of the responsibility for what's happened. Asking the government to fix it is akin to a business asking the government to rush in and fix their problems for them without taking responsibility for how they got there in the first place.

Don't get me wrong and paint me with an I hate doc's label I just believe that solving the problem should begin in their own house. There are excellent physicians and nurses who do an amazing job. That's what they trained for, get paid for and have a passion for and I'm glad we have those people who continue to do their job and avoid all the posturing and chest thumping that draws the attention of a pool of media sharks who smell the blood of dissent and pounce on it with all the frenzy of their aquatic namesakes.

So to all of you, don't tell us what the other guy isn't doing, tell us how you ALL are going to fix it by working together. ME, ME, ME just doesn't cut it anymore. Remember, when you are pointing your finger at someone else, there are still three pointing back at you.

Oops, I jumped the gun a little.

Yes, I checked yesterday and the Christmas tree display at the Centennial Centre isn't up until next week or like the start of the first week of December. Speaking of which did you know that we're only one month away - that's only 30 days from Christmas Day. Have you got your shopping done yet? I haven't started. Its going to be crazy.  Three grandson's to buy for two lovely little granddaughters and four kids and their spouses or significant others. Oh and I better not forget the Missus. HO HO HO a shopping we will go.

****
My condolences go out to the Kindraka family on the recent passing of Alex Kindraka. My dad and I sold Alex's purebred Hereford production sales for years - first in our auction market in St. Paul and then Alex built a great sales barn out at the farm north of Glendon and the sales continued their with his wife Nellie and the daughters in law and friends providing the meal afterward and a couple of the guys playing guitar and daughter Carie Anne singing after the sale. Glendon Pine Herefords were classic dark red, big framed cattle that always had great buyer demand selling to buyers across Alberta and points beyond. Prayers for Alex will be held in the Glendon RCMP Hall on Thursday, November 25 at 7 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the same location the following day at 10 a.m. Rest in peace Alex.
****
I hear that the Bonnyville Friendship centre is holding their annual Christmas dinner at the Beaver River Fish and Game building on Saturday, December 18th. For more information call them at 826-3374.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs are holding their annual Pub Night on Saturday, November 27 starting at 6 p.m. for more info or tickets ($50 each including dinner and entertainment) call Janice or Vickie at the Pontiacs office -780-826-2893.

Have you seen the trees yet?

Just wondering if you've seen the decorated trees yet at the Centennial Centre. I haven't but I'm going to take a look. They even have one there with different wines that you can bid on. Talk about a Merry Christmas.
****
Yikes, I missed the Ft. Kent seniors monthly breakfast on the 21st. They usually fall on the 3rd Sunday of each month but I'm expecting they won't have another until January what with Christmas approaching and all that. I'll find out and let you know.
****
Boy lots of heat in the Leg in Edmonton over Dr. Sherman, Dr. Duckett and the whole Alberta Health Services group. Why can't people get along. I do believe its time to light a fire under Ducketts tail and send him back home. Surely we must have a Canadian with enough brains to work on this on going debacle.

There are carols in the air

Yes, with the first snow of the season and the brisk temps. (Did I say brisk? They're down right frigid.) Anyway, back to the story. With thoughts of sugar plums dancing in our heads what better than a Christmas concert or Chorale Fest.

Mark this date on your calendar and join the Bonnyville Society Singers for their annual Christmas Charale Fest - December 2 at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Centre Field House. They'll be taking a silver collection at the door that will be donated to the Knights of Columbus and the Christmas Hamper program. Great entertainment and a terrific cause.
****
Not to get ahead of myself but here's an early announcement for New Year's Eve so you can shop now for that new frock. The Sandy River Community group will be holding a New Year's Eve Dinner and Dance at the Sandy Rapids Hall on Highway 55 west of Iron River. There'll be cocktails, dinner and dancing to the music of Tiffany Dowhan. I'll have more info a little later on as they are just getting the tickets printed so I don't want to rush anyone.
****
Lots of annual meetings coming up as well like the Bonnyville Ag Society on Wednesday, November 24 upstairs in the board room at C2.  Then the Bonnyville Cold Lake PC Association hold their meeting the next night at the Bonnyville Senior Citizens centre at 7 p.m. And, the Bonnyville Pro Rodeo and Chuckwagon Association will hold their AGM on Thursday, December 2 at the Neighborhood Inn. Busy Town, Busy People.
****
Took a quick trip to Cold Lake to see some of my clients and low and behold, its paved all the way to the lake now. The wet summer weather held that job up interminably and it was getting treacherous or at least really rough to drive on. Its going to be beautiful when they get it all finished. (I'm thinking next spring now).
****
Meanwhile, up in Iron River, discussions are ongoing re a new controversial recovery process for heavy oil. Follow this story by clicking on the link below.

I'm thinking that all the watermelons will be sold out by the weekend if Rider Pride has anything to do with the Grey Cup. Go Get 'em Riders.

Have a great week.

It's been a while

Hi and welcome back. It's been a while since I've had time to post anything so here goes.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Alberta PC Party AGM in Calgary a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by all the positive activity that permeated the weekend. Policies were presented that had all of our input from the spring session in February and we got to vote on them after discussion of course.

More than 1500 people participated in the weekend event and Premier Ed was warmly received with a standing ovation that went on for quite a while. The momentum that was built at that event will swell and there is a new reason to be glad I live in Alberta.
****
While we're at it, the AGM for the Bonnyville / Cold Lake PC Constituency is slated for Thursday, November 25 at 7 p.m. in the Bonnyville Senior's Drop in Centre - Pioneer Room. Nominations for new board members will be accepted and an election of officers will take place. Then its on to our special guests.
Join us to dialogue with the Hon. Lloyd Snelgrove - President of the Treasury Board and the Hon. Ray Danyluk - Minister of Infrastructure. Of course, our own MLA Genia Leskiw will be there as well.  New memberships for 2011 will be available so come on out and participate in the future of your province.

****
Just a reminder about another local event that's coming up as well. A Night of Music will be held Sunday, December 5 at 7:00 PM at St. John's United Church (corner of 43 Ave & 46 St in Bonnyville) Silver collection for Dr. Margaret Savage Centre. Lunch to follow.
****

Here's a couple of other goodies before I sign off. The Bonnyville Seniors Centre will be holding a breakfast starting in the new year on the first and 3rd Sunday of each month. They'll also be offering lunch on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month as well.  They've also got a great floor curling league over there and when I dropped in the other day, every rink was full and a couple of people were waiting on the side lines.  So, if you're a senior and your looking for a little action, why not drop in. There's always something going on.
****
A friend of mine sent me some old pics of Edmonton and I'm posting one below. See if you can identify it. No prizes, just fun but let me know and maybe I can come up with a prize or two. I'll post more in the coming weeks. Keep coming back to try your luck at guessing.

Thanks Oilers for a great season opener

This new crop of Edmonton Oilers are going to be a lot of fun to watch this year and what a fitting way to start the 2010-2011 NHL season by BLANKING the Calgary Flames 4-0. Yup, shutout in their first game and a KO as well. I'm thinking Flames player Raitis Ivanans is going to want to steer clear of Oiler's Steve MacIntyre for the next oh several games or the end of the season. Yup, the kipper didn't look so hot between the pipes this time but our Nik Khabibulin slammed the door on Iggy and the boys from the south. Its going to be a great season.. Go Oilers.
****
Speaking of going, it's fall and time to go shopping for those great Christmas gifts for that hard to shop for person. I've just discovered a great way to do that without the traffic and crowds and they've got a ton of great stuff at great prices.  like these great looking Beyond Yoga pants at right. Hey, this one is for the girls! So guys quit your snickering or drooling. They've also got tools too. RRRrrrrr Tools. Go here right now and check it out.

The Pontiacs are on FIRE!!

Nine games straight. Wow these guys have got it all together this year. I've been kind of busy so haven't updated here as much as I'd like but hopefully I'll have more time in the near future. Back to the Pontiacs. Not only did they win nine games straight. They also went to showcase in Spruce Grove last weekend and won both their games. I happened to be in Edmonton that weekend and ended up staying in the same hotel as the Ft. Mac Oil Barons. I got to talking with one of their people and asked how they were making out in the same showcase. Well, they had split their games. I asked how the Pontiacs were doing and he said they were on fire and that they had won both their games. He even admitted that the Pontiacs seemed to be a much improved team this year. YES! I've got to get to more games. That goes for you folks too. Lets' fill the stands for every game. Not only will the team be encouraged but ticket sales will help with their cash flow. It costs a pile of money to campaign the team for the season so every extra dollar helps. The Boys are back home this weekend for a Saturday game against the Drumheller Dragons. Game time is 7 p.m. in the RJ Lalonde arena. Go Pontiacs.

****
I happened across this the other day and thought I'd share it with you.  Just click here.

****

There's been lots of political action up in Cold Lake, Mayor Copeland is being challenged for his seat by former councillor Debra Pelechowsky and a bunch of new faces are popping up for councillor seats including Ajaz Quirashi who is a long time community volunteer. Ajaz even told me the other day that he's not in it for the salary but for the community. He even said that he'll donate his salary to local charities. Interesting.

That's all I've got for today. Come back soon.

Let there be Corn!

This was a terrific corn year with plants in the area reaching unprecedented heights and there are cobs 'o plenty. If you are a corn addict like a lot of us you should be able to eat your fill this Saturday, September 25 over at the Bonnyville Seniors Centre. Tickets are just $10 and available at the door. The Corn Feast starts with cocktails at 5 p.m. followed by delicious golden corn. Put in your best chompers and get on over there.
****
Saturday is going to be busy with lots of other things to do so pace yourself. Our ever loving Pontiacs are in town to host the Sherwood Park Crusaders.  Coming off a successful win against Ft. Mac on Tuesday night our team is chomping at the bit to move up in the standings. The intensity they played with last night was exciting to watch and bodes well for a fantastic year in the AJHL. Game time is 7 p.m. Go Pontiacs!
****
Let's hope the weather smartens up so our farm community can get harvesting. The local Canada Foods Food Grains group will be attempting to harvest their field just east of Bonnyville about 4 miles on Highway 28. Volunteers will bring their combines and should get it done in a day or less. In addition, there will be an old fashioned threshing bee and a field lunch. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring the kids and show them the Old and the New in farming methods. Proceeds from the sale of the grain that's harvested will be matched four to one to provide food for countries who are in dire need. To date, our local group have raised nearly 1 million dollars. Come on weather shine on these good people.
****
Here's a quick little story for you. Enjoy!
A rancher needs a bull to service his cows but needs to borrow the money from the bank. The banker who lent the money comes by a week later to see how his investment is doing.
The farmer complains that the bull just eats grass and won't even look at the cows. The banker suggests that a veterinarian have a look at the bull.
The next week the banker returns to see if the vet helped. The farmer looks very pleased: "The bull has serviced all my cows, broke through the fence, and has serviced all of my neighbor's cows."
"Wow," says the banker. "What did the vet do to that bull?"
Got Milk?
"Just gave him some pills," replied the farmer.
"What kind of pills?" asked the banker.
"I don't know," said the farmer. "But they sort of taste like chocolate."
Have a great week. Dave.

Lets get ready to Rummage!!

The good folks over at St. John's United Church in Bonnyville are at it again and its going to be huge!
For three full days, they will be holding their fall rummage sale starting on Wednesday, September 22 from 1-6 p.m. and continuing on Thursday, Sept 23 from 1 until 8 p.m. The final day is Friday the 24th and they'll be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Check them out at the corner of 46 Street and 43rd Avenue. Of course you can always check them out every Sunday morning as well. Enjoy.
****
I've been missing in action lately because I got some kind of bug and its been tough to beat. Started out with the sniffles then progressed into the chest and parked there for the past 3 weeks. Been on all kinds of meds and a few home remedies and finally on a machine they call a nebulizer and I'm on that four times a day. Anyway the Doc found a little bit of pneumonia so they are trying to clear that up and this nebulizer and cocktail of stuff I'm breathing in is helping. That said I should be out and about in a few more days. I sure will miss one of my home remedies though. It was quite tasty. Take an ounce or so of lemon juice in a big mug. Add hot water then stir in a teaspoon of honey and top it off with a shot of amaretto. Now I know what the Italians get excited about. Slept like a baby. Kids don't try this at home.
****
I see the municipal elections are just around the corner and all the incumbents for Town council are throwing their hat in the ring. Also running is apprentice ship board senior consultant John Irwin. John is certainly no stranger to the political realm having served as president plus a number of other offices with the Bonnyville Cold Lake PC Association. It'll be interesting to see if any more heads pop up before registration closes on Monday, September 20. All positions are open so if you feel the urge to serve, step up, get five folks to nominate you and run. If not, make sure you get out and vote. Election day is Monday the 18th of October. Council positions with the MD of Bonnyville are also open so its going to be a busy day.  I'm sure we'll hear more from all the current crop and hopefully from some more newcomers. Variety and a challenge is always good for business.
****
Speaking of elections, my cousin David Dorward is running for the Mayor's position in the city of Edmonton. Dave who is a CA has his own accounting firm in Edmonton and has a long association with politics in the Gold Bar area of Edmonton with the PC party. You can find out more about him on his new website - www.votedorward.ca

Just got notice of a new scam that's going around aimed at businesses.

You might receive and invoice for a Business Directory CD Rom.

If you read through the invoice, there is a cost of $1500 Canadian
dollars for an International CD Rom of business addresses.  Who knows if
this will ever be delivered.  A company I know of received two of them in the last week.

The return address on the envelope is for a Spanish address.  If you
were to sign off on the attached form, and return to the source, you
have signed a legally binding agreement to purchase this directory for
three years.
I don't know much more about it than that but just beware. Its amazing that these are out there but they must work or they wouldn't keep sending them. These scammers are very ingenious and have no compunction about taking your money.  I had one that kept phoning me to sell me something similar. Actually she (the caller) insisted that I send the money right away because I was late with my renewal fee. I just kept asking her questions like when had I signed up and what the name of her company was and finally I told her I don't buy anything over the phone so send me you information by fax or mail and I'll look it over. Of course, nothing ever came because they were just scamming. There is another one that phones or invoices you for copier toner as well. You pay but you never receive.  Make sure you check your invoices carefully and always ask for proposals in writing and references if you want.
Remember, its your money they are spending.
 ****
And finally, here's a little story for all the politicos out there.
"Daddy," a little girl asked her father, "do all fairy tales begin with 'Once upon a time'? "

"No, sweetheart," he answered. "Some begin with 'If I am elected.'"
Have a great week. Dave

It's Hockey time in Bonnyville

Dropped into the first exhibition game of this year's version of the Bonnyville Pontiacs and unfortunately they were playing Ft. Mac. Yup, the MOB was back in town with their big budget coaching and player enticements. OK, I'm jealous but our youngsters did a pretty good job until about mid way in the second period and then they kept backing up. Yes, there were a lot of new players that have moved up from Midget level and lots of new faces so I guess we can't fault them too much at this stage. For a first effort it was pretty entertaining and there were some noticeable new talents that stood out. Beau Ferbey (4) comes to mind who played a great game on defense but needs some help on the other side. Ty Carey (27) is going to be a power house up front with a deft hand and great positioning. Newcomer Matt Montesano (27) all the way from Boston who had never even heard of the AJHL until a month or two ago is another welcome addition.

Rejoining the Pontiacs are Go Getter Kevin Carthy sporting a new A on his sweater. Kevin jumped on a stray puck last night and set up the only regulation time goal for the Pontiacs against the Ft. Mac onslaught. Yup, the final score was 6 to 1 for them. Oh, we went 3 for 3 in the shootout vs their 1 for 3 but it was too little too late and you have to score those good ones during the game. I'm not sure I'm going to  like the new format they are introducing to break ties - One five minute 3 on 3 followed by a shootout. (the one they had last night was just a practice to get the boys used to it.) I say, finish the other team off by the final buzzer. In any case, there's lots of raw talent there for Coach Mercier to work with and now its up to him and his assistants to trim the herd and get the juggernaut rolling. Have a terrific season. Home opener is Saturday, September 11 against the Lloyd Bob Cats at the RJ Lalonde arena 7 p.m.  Go Pontiacs!

Where you gonna get your Beef?

The cattle industry in Alberta continues to be in a state of jeopardy. How many current ranchers/farmers will survive and can they continue to produce beef and receive only a pittance for their hard work while packers earn record profits and the consumer is still unaware. Join other producers at a town hall meeting coming up on August 23rd at Flat Lake Hall. It all starts at 6 p.m. with what else, BEEF on a Bun. The meeting will start at 7 with Chuck MacLean - Alberta Beef Producers chairman as the guest speaker. Its too darn wet to bale anyway and the fields are too soft to drive on. Although, it'll likely be hot and sunny that day. See the poster at right or print it off and stick it on your fridge. (Thanks to Bill Fox for passing this on.)

Ladies Tee it Up for Cancer

Here's an upcoming event that will get you swinging. Don't forget to register by the deadline of August 11, 2010. It looks like a great day of golf and friend/fund raising. You can phone the pro shop for more information or to book your cart.

Haying in the 30's a terrific event

It was a great weekend of music, old time farming demonstrations and giving at Haying in the 30's near Mallaig, Alberta on the August long weekend. Thousands of people visited the site to tour the exhibits, partake of the food and take in the entertainment provided by visiting musicians who donated their time.

Volunteer members of the committee operated horse driven machinery or vintage tractors to demonstrate how field work was done back in the day. Quaint buildings throughout the valley that makes up the site were staffed by even more volunteers who performed or informed all passers by. Some folks even decided to take their Saturday night bath next to the old saloon.

The most important part of the weekend though was the generosity of the visitors who came to support this Cancer Support Society. All visitors were fed, entertained and many even brought their RVs and none of them were charged any admission or fee for the food. All the Society asked was for them to consider a donation towards the cause. And they gave. At the end of the day on Sunday, it was announced that the event had raised approximately $165,000. dollars. The money will still keep coming in throughout the year with a cut off around the middle of December.  Last year's event raised a little over $200,000 by year end so organizers are hoping that the trend will continue.

The money is used to assist with expenses for those who have to travel for treatment or be near a loved one who is undergoing treatment. No one on the society is paid and none of the money is used to buy food or build buildings. Everything is donated so that 100% of the funds are available for those who need it most.  Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers who are Haying in the 30's.

Home Town: Mallaig

Norm Theroux and wife Yolande live in St. Paul. He is an active member of Haying in the 30's Cancer Support Society.

Haying in the 30’s was founded in 1999 by Edgar Corbiere. Edgar had a dream to raise money to assist cancer victims and their families with their financial expenses. He wanted to put on a weekend event where all monies raised would be donated back to people who have been diagnosed with cancer. He came up with the idea of using horse drawn equipment to demonstrate farming practices as they were in the 30’s. Such as mowing, thrashing, plowing, road construction, shingle mill, saw mill and many more.

Edgar and many volunteers have created a 1930 community atmosphere at our annual event in Mallaig AB. At the site you will find an original house from the mid 1900’s , blacksmith shop, church, saloon, general store, trappers cabin, old farm stead, barn, and many more. Also we have many numerous displays and activities that can be viewed throughout the August long week-end.

In 1999 the event started with 50 volunteers and has grown to more than 100 volunteers that help make this two day event a success from year to year. Volunteers come from many communities across Alberta.

The event has drawn more than 3000 people per day in attendance on the August long weekend. All of the costs for this function are paid for by volunteers and very generous sponsors in the Lakeland area. 100% of the donations are given to cancer victims for financial aid towards medical expenses, travel, lodging and other expenses. The donations we have been able to raise have exceeded our expectations. In 1999, we were able to help 12 recipients; to date we have helped over 2000 recipients.

“We may not be able to find a cure for cancer, but we may be able to ease some of the financial burden that comes with the disease”
Thank you, Edgar for dreaming and inspiring our group to succeed.

Please view our web site at www.hayinginthe30’s.org to view the history of the organization and pictures.

Pontiacs announce 1st Ever Breakfast Event

The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs hockey team have just announced their first-ever annual fund raising Breakfast. Yup, Breakfast folks and what a great idea. The event will take place on Monday, August 23 in the C2's Flint Field House. Doors open at 6:45 a.m. and breaky is served at 7 a.m.
Pat LaForge - President of the Edmonton Oilers is confirmed as the guest speaker and they are even working on getting commitments from former Pontiacs, Jon Kalinski and Mark Latestu who now play in the NHL.
Proceeds from the event are ear marked toward the Pontiac Players educational fund that will help defray those costs that took nearly $32,000 out of the operational budget over the last three years. There are also possibilities of setting up scholarships for these young players and other opportunities are being negotiated through AJHL's legal council Mark Lamb.

This event will bring a complete new format to the Lakeland and will allow corporations to use the event as a team building effort for their own staff. What a great way to energize your group or yourself. You can buy a table of eight seats for $800 or single tickets are available as well for $100 each. Help the Pontiacs create Champions both on and off the ice.

Call the Head Coach, Chad Mercier or Business Manager Janice Sabatier at the Pontiac Office at 780-826-2893 for tickets or more information.

Canada Day is coming to Bonnyville

I think it is anyway. Haven't heard anything on the radio, haven't read anything in the paper but I know its going to come. I'm hoping there's still a pancake breakfast in front of Sobey's. I know there's an outdoor farmer's market at the Museum and there might be a party in the park by Jesse Lake with music and fireworks but I haven't heard anything official. If someone else knows let us all know.
*****

Saw a sign the other day at a golf course that seemed a little harsh.

I supposed it's all justified but gee folks leave them with their dignity.

****
I see that Edmonton made it onto the new Monopoly game board. And, it's in expensive real estate territory right there along with Park Place and Boardwalk.
It reminds me of the expensive assessments that tax payers out around Moose Lake got recently. I know a few of them have contacted the assessor and are asking him to have a re-look at it.
****
Here's another cute sign we ran into on a recent trip to the Excited States. I wonder if the staff got the message. There's the odd place in town we could likely send the same message. I know I ordered some food recently at a food counter in a large building on the east end of town and the young guy took my order and my money and then left to have a smoke with his buddy.

I assumed he had passed the order on the the cook. After 15 minutes I got a little curious and approached the counter with my receipt in hand and a young lady who had been sitting off to the side visiting with another friend asked if she could help me. I said I was still waiting for my breakfast sandwich. She said Oh, I'll check then returned and said she could get it ready in just a few minutes. The order hadn't even been started so I said no just give me my money back. I won't return! And they wonder why there's a deficit each month. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Customer service is the first thing you need to teach new employees. Without it you will have NO BUSINESS.
****
That's it for this week. Oh wait, one more thing.
Plan your August long weekend now to join me at Haying in the 30's out at Mallaig. It's an excellent way to spend the weekend and you'll be supporting an excellent cause. Here's a poster on the event.
Enjoy. Dave.

Here's a little Northern Hospitality

Just yesterday, US Consul General for Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC and Northwest Territories, Laura Lochman was up in the Lakeland to check out our Oilsands Operations and what else the area had to offer. She was hosted during her tour by MLA Genia Leskiw and other local dignitaries. She stopped for lunch at Clark's on lake shore drive in Cold Lake North.  Pictured left is Genia, Ms Lochman, far right - Craig Copeland - Mayor of Cold Lake and Daniel Fennel from the US Consul office in Calgary.

There was even time for a quick trip on the lake with Cap'n Dan's Charter boat as seen below.
Welcome to the Lakeland. We hope your trip was enjoyable. Now please go back and tell your people that its not dirty oil.

You call that a pothole fix?

Wow, a new piece of pavement popped up just outside our property but I'm sure it won't last long. Since last fall and all through the winter, the heavy traffic that runs down 46 street has been pounding away at this hole and really creating a mess. Just a couple of days ago (April 26) the town crew or someone dumped in a batch of cold mix, ran back and forth over it with a truck (I assume) and drove away calling it done.  Sorry, its not going to measure up and here's why. The pile of pavement - yes I said pile, is humped up like they buried a turtle in there (for the run-off I guess), the sides aren't sealed and it isn't packed properly. One of the other reasons this patch isn't going to hold is the traffic still insists on racing up and down this road many beyond the speed limit. And, there are still heavy trucks using this as a main route to get to the new subdivisions to the east. Yes, heavy trucks like tandems full of dirt or gravel, low-boys with track hoes and cement trucks with full barrels. I think its time that the developer opened a road down toward their end of town so the established areas don't have to put up with this traffic. I know its still winter (cause it won't quit snowing or threatening to snow) but come on folks this has been going on for more than a year. Wise up. NUFF Said.
****
Oh and have you driven down any back alley's here? They are in terrible condition. Something needs to be done because its costing us a fortune for front end work on our vehicles. Maybe we should be submitting the bills to the town office!
****
We're off to the Alberta PC Association policy conference in Edmonton this weekend. Its an opportunity for constituents to have a say in how our provincial government runs. I'm sure the Premier will have a lot to share with us and we with him. We have a combined delegation from both Cold Lake and Bonnyville attending so we'll be able to share information when we return.
****
I know we need the moisture but couldn't it come in warmer temperatures. We had to take all the plants in from the greenhouse because the heating bill would have broken the bank account. Now our house looks like a jungle inside with all the trays and little, and some not so little, plants poking through the dirt. Its also a little earthy smelling so it'll be nice to get them all out in the ground where they belong.
****
Interesting developments in the northeast of town from the partners at Envision. A potential new mall plus more housing can't hurt. Sure it would bring competition but it just might keep our local shoppers home. We're losing them to places that have malls so lets get progressive and grow this town.
****
That's it for now but I'll maybe slip in a little ad here. If you need printing - everything from basic business cards to multi-part carbonless forms such as fluid haul tickets, hazard id forms, safety meeting forms, purchase order books, ground disturbance forms, brochures, letterhead, note pads, labels, or special printing, call me anytime for a no obligation quote. You can also visit my web site at www.commwordsink.com for more information. Hey and if you don't need any printing perhaps you know someone that does. Have a great week. Dave

Garage Sale season is Upon Us!

And in case you haven't heard, there's a Giant one A' Comin' !!!! This one is just a little jaunt outside of town to Eastbourne Hall at the top of the hill just west of Hoselaw Corner. It's coming this weekend.

GIANT GARAGE SALE
Eastbourne Hall
Friday April 23 from 10 AM to 7 PM
Saturday April 24 from 9 AM to 3 PM
 ****
Ya know its a shame that the old service station couldn't be used for something. It was always a great place to stop for Ice Cream or other goodies on the way into the Big Smoke or coming home. I'm not even sure who owns the place now. The last thing I heard was that even the bank had given up and turned it back over to the MD. It would be interesting to see what they'd find if they tested that ground again.
****
Something has gotten into my blog spot and its making things act a little weird. Like my return key seems to stick to the end of the sentence and when I hit it several times it finally lets go and runs off down the page.
****
This warm weather has got the Gardener's Itch running High in a bunch of folks. I set up a green house for the Missus a couple of weekends ago and she has been filling it and emptying it in case it freezes at night so our house has quite an earthy smell to it. Oh wait a minute those are just my socks. (just kidding folks). In any case the missus is chomping at the bit to get growing and has likely bought about $4 Grand worth of seeds. I can't believe how much they cost now. She showed me a little pack of wave petunias and the seeds were so small they actually packed them in a little plastic vial inside the bag. There were only about 5 or 6 seeds and the package cost nearly $5 Bucks! Those petunias better do a heck of a lot more than wave. For that price they should dance a bit too.
****
We're going to try a couple of experiments this year in the garden and I hope they work out. Last year we planted our potatoes in a straw bed above ground but the dry year didn't help. We had done that once before down on the farm and it worked really well. Lots of big white potatoes without any scab or scale. Once they matured, you could just reach in under the straw and pull out the potatoes you needed for supper and leave the rest undisturbed. It was like picking eggs from the hen house when I was a kid. Anyway,  a nosey heifer decided to check out the garden one day and discovered these juicy potatoes under the straw. She liked them A LOT.  She didn't get them all though so we had a pretty good feed. I know she developed a real taste for spuds though because when we were hauling her to market we went by a fast food place and she started to beller like crazy. She must have smelled the fries or....maybe she knew where her trip might end.
****
Can you imagine, the ticket line up for Johnny Reid went all the way across the rotunda at the Centennial Centre last Friday. By mid afternoon, they had sold 1100 tickets and all of the sky box seats. Amazing. Johnny's pretty popular so I'm sure it'll be a sell out. I wonder who gets to collect the interest on the money cause the concert isn't until September 24th.

Randy Travis is here on May 5th and you can still get tickets for his concert.

Well my computer is still being goofy so I'll sign off for a bit and bring you more news a bit later. Have a great week. Dave

Wisdom of the ages

Have You Ever Danced?

An old prospector shuffled into town leading an old tired mule.
The old man headed straight for the only saloon to clear his parched throat.

He walked up and tied his old mule to the hitch rail.  As he stood there, brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.

The young gunslinger looked at the old man and laughed, saying, "Hey old man, have you ever danced?"

The old man looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No, I never did dance... never really wanted to."

A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said,  "Well, you old fool, you're gonna dance now," and started shooting at the old man's feet.

The old prospector --not wanting to get a toe blown off-- started hopping around like a flea on a hot skillet.  Everybody was laughing, fit to be tied.

When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.

The old man turned to his pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers.

The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air.
The crowd stopped laughing immediately.

The young gunslinger heard the sounds too, and he turned around very slowly.  The silence was almost deafening.

The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old timer and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels.

The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old man's hands, as he quietly said, "Son, have you ever kissed a mule's butt?"

The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, "No sir..... but... I've always wanted to."

There are a few lessons for us all here:

Never be arrogant.
Don't waste ammunition.
Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.
Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
Don't mess with old men, they didn't get old by being stupid.

There, now that I've got your attention, here's a couple of local events that are on tap in the Lakeland.

There will be a SPRING RUMMAGE/GARAGE SALE
St. John 's United Church
Thursday April 22nd from 1 PM to 6 PM
Friday April 23rd from 1 PM to 6 PM
Corner 43 Avenue & 46 Street
Bonnyville

I'm thinking of going for a couple of reasons - One, I need another garage. Two, I've always wanted to know what a rummage looks like.....

Have fun, life's too short to be serious all the time.

Holy Cow, Bonnyville is becoming quite the Concert Stage. Randy Travis is here on May 5th in the Centennial Centre and now Johnny Reid is coming here on September 24th. Tickets go on sale on Friday, April 16th. You'd better be quick or you won't get any. His shows sell out fast.
****
If you don't happen to get tickets to either show, you can save your sheckles for the upcoming Bonnyville Pro Rodeo Dance with Sweet Tequila on Saturday, May 29 in the Flint Field House at the Centennial Centre. Tickets will be on sale shortly at just $20 each. The event is presented by the Bonnyville Ag Society in support of the rodeo that runs May 28, 29 & 30 with performances at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

I also heard a little rumour that the RCMP Musical Ride is coming to town to try out the rodeo arena and covered grandstand. They'll be here in August on the 13th so watch for tickets and announcements.

That's it for now folks but keep checking back to find out what's happening in the Lakeland region. Have a great week. Dave

Come and sing or just listen

A little bird dropped this message on my desk the other day about an upcoming event in Bonnyville. And, as you'll see to the right the Bonnyville Society Singers are presenting a special Salute to our Armed Forces concert with net proceeds going to the Bonnyville Legion's building fund. It'll be a great night likely experiencing a few numbers from back then as well as modern times. (Just click on the poster and it will get big enough to read the small type.)

****
Great job by the fund raising committee of the Bonnyville Pro Rodeo and Chuckwagon Association on their fund-raising Cowboy Gala last Saturday. I heard they raised about $75,000 that will help them to finish sheeting in the grandstand and adding a couple of concession areas.
****
I see that our town council is starting to get a bit worried and anxious to find a solution to the fresh water supply that they had hoped would come in a pipeline from Cold Lake. Seems our current system will be pushed to its maximum capacity to take on the increased amount of treatment required to pull water from a shallow Moose Lake.

The hold up now is that the Cold Lake Regional Utilities Services Commission (CLRUSC) withdrew the application for a waterline because of concerns that adding on Bonnyville and other potential users numbering 65,000 that it would impact levels in Cold Lake. The Commission heard presentation in late March informing them otherwise and that the lake was indeed a reliable and sustainable water source. So now its up to all parties concerned to get back to the table and get it launched again. The project likely won't start until at least 2011 considering the fiscal restraint our government has in place. The project would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $62 million.
****

Easter is coming up this weekend and a lot of folks will be on the road to spend time with family and get out to great the spring. Just a reminder to drive safely by not using your cell phone or texting or anything crazy like that. OK.
****
Here's a little story for you.
An adorable little girl walked into a pet shop and asked... "Excuse me; do you have any rabbits here?"

"We do" the sales representative answered...

By leaning down to her eye level she asked, "Did you want a white rabbit or would you rather have a soft, fuzzy black rabbit?"

She shrugged and said "I don't think my python really cares".

Ouch! Hope you have a great week. Dave

Close but no Cigar

Tied 2 all after the second period and well into the third it looked like our home boys could pull off a win with the right bounces. Then a scramble in front of goal tender Julien Laplante in the last 5 minutes of the third put the Pontiacs behind by one. With the clock ticking down, our Pontiacs fought their valiant best even pulling their goal tender for the extra man advantage but it was to no avail. The final buzzer ended with 3 to 2 posted on the clock ending not only the game but the season for the Bonnyville Pontiacs who went down four straight to the Spruce Grove Saints who only lost four games total in the regular season.

All the best to the Pontiac members who will be leaving the team as they move on in their college careers and elsewhere in the league. Thanks for an exciting year. We look forward to a dynamic young team with a little more size and with some crafty drafting to fill the roster we will once again be contenders in this league.

Hey its almost the middle of March and I see a little bit 'o green starting to poke out so that means it can't be far from spr... nope. St. Patty's Day and you'll be wanting to take your fill at the local St. Patty's Day supper at St. John's United Church, Wednesday March 17th on the corner of 43 Avenue & 46 Street here in Bonnyville. Well not on the corner but in the Church. The supper runs from 4:30 to 6:30 PM and admission prices are as follows: Adults $12.00 / Children $6.00. It's a heck of a deal and you'll be spreading a little bit 'o the green yourself. Into the Church coffers that is.
